Perkins Coie, an international law firm, is taking a groundbreaking approach to training future legal professionals. In an effort to enhance flexibility within the traditional training contract route, the firm is designing a new training program that aims to harness the benefits of the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE). This innovative program is expected to take up to a year off the conventional training contract timeline.

Scheduled to be finalized by September, a legal trainee program will be launched in London, marking a significant step forward in the firm’s commitment to attracting and nurturing highly talented individuals. It has been designed to provide an opportunity for low-income students in the UK to excel in the field of law.

This program builds upon Perkins Coie’s successful legal business analyst (LBA) initiative, which is currently undergoing recruitment for the upcoming September cohort. The LBA program offers a 12-month fixed-term contract, encompassing four three-month seats. Participants spend two seats on the business side, gaining exposure to firm strategy, pitching, marketing, and other invaluable skills. The remaining two seats focus on legal work, providing a comprehensive understanding of the legal profession.

At the culmination of the program, participants engage in a discussion to determine whether they wish to pursue a career as a legal professional or a business professional within the firm. This encourages participants to make an informed choice that aligns with their strengths and interests.
