Aerospace startup Boom Supersonic is making waves in the aviation industry with its goal to bring back faster-than-the-speed-of-sound commercial air travel. The company recently celebrated the successful completion of the second test flight of its supersonic jet, marking a significant milestone in their journey.
Boom Supersonic is determined to realize its vision with the development of the Overture supersonic airliner. This innovative aircraft, still in the works, promises to transport approximately 65 passengers from New York to London in three-and-a-half hours, and from San Francisco to Tokyo in just six hours. If achieved, this would revolutionize long-distance air travel, making it faster and more convenient than ever before.
To showcase their progress, Boom Supersonic has constructed a 1/3 scale prototype of the Overture called XB-1. This scaled-down version has already completed two successful test flights at the company’s facility in California’s Mojave desert, further fueling anticipation for the full-scale development.
CEO Blake Scholl expressed his excitement about the potential of supersonic flights, stating, “Imagine being able to vacation in Australia instead of Hawaii. Imagine being able to take a day trip to London. The demand for supersonic flights would be tremendous if they were safe, affordable, and sustainable.”
With the demise of the Concorde, the world’s first supersonic passenger plane, there has been a void in the aviation industry.
