The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has allocated £12 million to support five projects aimed at enhancing public spaces across the capital. The funding, provided through the Civic Partnership Programme, will be used to improve climate resilience, revitalize high streets, and create new green areas and routes for walking and cycling.

Over the next three years, a total of seven acres of new or improved public space will be developed, while 220 trees will be planted to enhance the city’s green landscape. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to give Londoners a greater say in shaping the growth of their city and to provide them with better public spaces for living, working, and leisure.

The selected boroughs that will benefit from the funding are Neasden, Ilford, Hoxton, Lewisham, and Croydon. Jules Pipe, the Deputy Mayor for planning, regeneration, and the fire service, expressed admiration for the caliber of proposals received, which he attributed to the collaborative efforts of the London boroughs and the innovative spirit of the city’s diverse communities.

This funding will not only transform the physical appearance of these boroughs but also contribute to the overall well-being and quality of life for residents. It represents a significant investment in creating vibrant, interconnected, and sustainable public spaces that will benefit both current and future generations of Londoners.
