Amazon’s commitment to sustainability and reducing carbon emissions takes a major leap forward with the introduction of e-cargo bikes for deliveries in Berlin. This innovative and eco-friendly solution will be implemented starting July 2024, as part of Amazon’s ongoing efforts to decarbonize its transportation network in Germany.
Partnering with renowned electric bike manufacturer, Mubea, Amazon plans to utilize these bikes to deliver over 1.5 million parcels annually across various areas in Berlin. By incorporating e-cargo bikes into their delivery fleet, Amazon aims to minimize their environmental impact while providing efficient and reliable service to its customers.
To support this initiative, a new micromobility hub will be established at the Alexa shopping centre, close to Alexanderplatz. These micromobility hubs serve as central points where packages are loaded onto delivery vehicles for the last stretch of their journey. By utilizing e-cargo bikes and on-foot deliveries from these hubs, Amazon can reduce the reliance on traditional delivery vans, resulting in fewer emissions and improved air quality.
Amazon’s strategic placement of micromobility hubs in dense urban areas, such as Berlin, enables them to optimize their delivery network, cater to a larger customer base, and mitigate traffic congestion. This initiative aligns with Amazon’s broader commitment of investing €400 million towards the electrification and decarbonization of their transportation infrastructure in Germany.
