Trains in south London are set to face significant disruption as Network Rail carries out a major track upgrade. Spanning from August 24th to September 1st, the works will involve the replacement of 1,500 meters of track, five sets of switches and crossings, and moveable rails. Passengers in the Crystal Palace area have been urged by the rail operator to plan their journeys in advance during this period.
The upgrade works will have a notable impact on train services at various stations, including West Norwood, Gipsy Hill, Birkbeck, and Beckenham Junction. Additionally, there will be no trains running to or from Crystal Palace between August 24th and August 26th. The stations from Streatham Hill to Norwood Junction and Sydenham will also experience reduced Southern service.
To ensure minimal inconvenience to passengers, tickets will be valid for travel on London Underground, London Overground, and London Buses. Network Rail’s Sussex route director, Lucy McAuliffe, expressed that the upgrade works aim to reduce train delays and enhance the overall passenger experience. She advised travelers to plan ahead and utilize alternative transportation options.
