Airports around the world are embracing biometric technology to streamline border crossings and enhance the travel experience. One such destination leading the charge is Curaçao, a popular Caribbean tourist spot. Its innovative program, known as Curaçao Express Pass, marks the world’s first fully operational biometric border crossing system. With this initiative, Curaçao aims to dramatically reduce traveler processing times by more than 50 percent.

To achieve this, Curaçao International Airport has partnered with Entrust, a digital security company. Through the Airside Digital Identity App, travelers can securely share their passport information with border authorities before their trip. Upon arrival, passengers can then breeze through designated eGates powered by the Seamless Journey Platform, provided by renowned biometrics company Vision-Box.

Additionally, Berlin Brandenburg Airport has recently launched its own facial recognition service, BER Biometrics. This contactless solution enables travelers to navigate the terminal without presenting their boarding pass. Passengers can register their biometrics using the SmartDepart app, developed by AirSphere. They can also take advantage of self-service kiosks for printing baggage labels, access the BER Tegel Lounge, and enjoy the convenience of the BER Runway security fast lane with an extended time slot. PaxControl, the German company’s automated boarding pass validation system, has been successfully deployed in five European airports.

Joining the global biometric revolution, Marseille Provence Airport has implemented its own biometric technology to streamline airport processes. While the specific details of their system are yet to be announced, it is evident that airports worldwide are recognizing the potential of biometrics to revolutionize travel in terms of security, efficiency, and passenger experience.

By embracing biometric solutions, airports are paving the way for a future where contactless border crossings and digital services seamlessly enhance every traveler’s journey. From expedited processing to improved security, biometrics are revolutionizing the way we travel, making airports smarter, more efficient, and ultimately, more traveler-friendly.
