Yesterday, 22 drivers gathered in the German capital to participate in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship Rookie Test. The test took place at Berlin’s Tempelhof Airport circuit and aimed to nurture potential future stars in the sport.

One standout performer of the day was Robert Shwartzman, who topped the timesheets in both sessions. Shwartzman, who is a reserve driver for Ferrari Formula 1, showed impressive speed and shaved off a tenth-of-a-second in the afternoon session to finish with a time of 1m01.937s. This put him just 0.118s behind the previous day’s pole position benchmark set by Formula E champion Jake Dennis.

Another driver who made an impact was Jak Crawford. Making his first appearance in the all-electric GEN3 single-seater, Crawford came closest to challenging Shwartzman’s time and finished just under two tenths adrift. Crawford, a race-winner in the FIA Formula 2 Championship, impressed during his try-out with Andretti Formula E.

In third place was former DTM title-winner Sheldon van der Linde, representing Jaguar TCS Racing. Van der Linde consistently displayed his speed throughout the day, further highlighting the talent on display at the test.

Overall, the Rookie Test in Berlin provided a platform for young drivers to showcase their skills and potential. With over 2,000 laps completed by the 22 drivers, it was a successful day of testing for the future stars of Formula E.
